ABOUT THE COACHES
Lauren Tekavec
Wingate University Head Coach Lauren Tekavec was named the head volleyball coach at Wingate University in January of 2023. Tekavec has been on the Wingate coaching staff since 2019, being named the Associate Head Coach in 2021. She takes over for AVCA Hall of Fame coach Shelton Collier, who stepped down as the Wingate head coach in December of 2022. In her time at Wingate, Tekavec has helped lead the Bulldogs to an 87-13 overall record. The Bulldogs have won the regular season SAC title every year she has been on the staff, adding a SAC Tournament championship in 2022. Wingate also won the NCAA Southeast Region title in 2022, advancing to the national quarterfinal before falling in five sets to the eventual national champions. Tekavec has played a key role in recruiting and defense during her time with the Bulldogs. Wingate has ranked in the top 10 nationally in opponents' hitting percentage every year she has been on staff, ranking second in 2022 while leading the nation in 2019. Tekavec played a huge role in this year's recruiting class that saw Emily Johnson become the first player in Wingate or SAC history to earn D2CCA second team All-American honors. The Region Freshman of the Year was also the only freshman to earn D2CCA All-American accolades in 2022. |
Jenny Glenn
MSU - Denver Head Coach Jenny Glenn has taken one of the most successful volleyball programs in Division II history to unprecedented heights during her seven years as the Roadrunners' head coach. Heading into the 2023 season, she has compiled an overall record of 166-40 (.806 winning percentage), including a staggering mark of 112-8 in regular-season RMAC play for a .933 winning percentage. Over the past three seasons, MSU Denver is 73-8 overall (.901) and 47-1 in the RMAC (.979). Her overall winning percentage of .782 and conference winning percentage of .922 are the best in the program's history. MSU Denver has spent nine weeks ranked No. 1 in Division II (four weeks in 2022, five weeks in 2021) by the American Volleyball Coaches' Association and has been No. 3 in the final poll in each of the last two seasons after finishing at No. 4 the prior year. Glenn has extended the Roadrunners' streak of consecutive NCAA Division II Tournament appearances to 22 while guiding MSU Denver to seven straight berths in the RMAC Tournament's championship match. She inherited a program on a 16-year roll and took it to another level in 2016 -- leading MSU Denver to an undefeated record in RMAC play -- and the Roadrunners haven't broken stride since. |
Aleah Hayes
Trinity Valley Community College Head Coach Aleah Hayes is in her fifth year as head volleyball coach at Trinity Valley Community College. Coming into the season, Hayes, only the second coach in program history, is 87-51, including a 31-11 record last season, which matched the school record for wins in a season in the 13-year history of the program. The 2022 season was also historic with the first-ever Region XIV Conference and Tournament championships. The Lady Cardinals went 16-0 in conference action and were 3-0 at the regional tournament, earning their second trip to the national tournament. The Lady Cardinals finished eighth in the event held in West Plains, MO. Hayes assumed her first head coaching job at the college after a two-year stint as an assistant coach at Columbia College, a NAIA school in Columbia, Missouri. She also has one year as an assistant at Evangel University and two years as a graduate assistant at Columbia on her resume. |
Jacquie Cason
Northwest Missouri State Assistant Coach Jacquie Cason is set to begin her first season as an assistant coach for the Northwest Missouri State University Bearcat volleyball team after serving the previous two years as a graduate assistant coach. In this role, she trained the middle and pin hitters. One area of focus assigned to Cason was on improving the blocking efficiency of front-row players. The 2019 Bearcats finished second in the conference for blocks per set, and junior middle hitter Bethany Elkins led the conference in blocks per set. As the graduate assistant for head coach Amy Woerth, she assisted with scouting reports for the team and helped organize meals on the road. Before Northwest, Cason spent one year at Eastern Illinois University and one year at Nicholls State University as the assistant coach and recruiting coordinator. She was involved with scouting, film preparation and analysis, coaching the offense and developing blocking schemes at both schools. |
Chuck Waddington
Angelo State Head Coach Chuck Waddington and the Angelo State Belles have put the volleyball nation on notice. Waddington, who will begin his 16th season as head coach in 2023, guided the Belles to ten-straight NCAA South Central Regional Tournaments and a historic run to the NCAA Elite Eight in 2016. In that time, the Belles have won four regular-season LSC Titles and four LSC Tournament Championships. He’s been named the LSC Coach of the Year five times and has helped 20 players earn AVCA All-American status. He also guided Meghan Parker to the program's first AVCA National Freshman of the Year award. He owns a career 354-129 record as head coach of the Belles, good enough for a .733 winning percentage. He has accumulated 354 overall wins, 197 Lone Star Conference victories, 15 straight LSC Tournament appearances, and multiple All-Conference and All-Region performers. “I think we are progressing in the direction to be a national contender every year,” said Waddington, who is ASU’s fifth head coach since the program was started in 1976. “We are a program approaching the level where we will be competing for national championships year in and year out. We want to start moving up the national ladder and become a consistent program always in the top-10 and competing for that top spot.” |
